Benefits
A Family membership is a financial membership for a family with one or more children who have diabetes. DYW runs events for children and teens aged up to 17 years old / end of year 13 at school. Subscription cost is $30 per annum.
An Individual Membership is a financial membership for adults who would like to continue to be part of the DYW community and to support DYW financially via their membership subscription. Teens aged over 16 years of age may also choose an Individual Membership. Subscription cost is $30 per annum.
A Community Membership is a free membership for any family or individual wishing to be part of the DYW community but without the added benefits of a paid Family or Individual Membership. You must upgrade to a Family Membership for your child (or children) to be able to apply for DYW Camp and other restricted events, and to receive discounts to Member-subsidised events.
Membership sponsorship is available if you’d like your child to apply for DYW Camp but cannot afford a Family Membership due to financial hardship. Please contact diabetesyouthwellington@gmail.com |
Q2 HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER OF DYW?
When your child is first diagnosed the Diabetes Nurse Educator at the hospital will ask if you want to be referred to DYW. If you gave your consent then our Family Support Officer will be in touch within the first 2-3 weeks, and will set up your Family Membership. We waive your membership fee for the first year when your child is newly diagnosed - you have enough going on!
If you’d like to join (or are unsure whether or not you were referred), please complete a request to join.

Q3 DO I NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF DYW TO PARTICIPATE IN EVENTS?
DYW supports families of young diabetics across the Wellington region, regardless of their membership status. Most of our events are also open to all families, although some events are restricted to Family Memberships only. See Q1 DYW Membership Types to read more about membership levels and benefits.
Q4 What is the Membership system?
Membership Works is a membership system that will help DYW keep in touch with you. The information in the system will enable us to target communications to specific age groups, or specific groups such as newly diagnosed. In 2019 Membership Works will also be your one-stop-shop for registering for all DYW events.

Q5 I’m not sure if I’m a member or not – how do I know?
Try requesting a password (near the top of this page). If your email address is not registered with us you will receive the error “No account found with this email address”. If that happens, click here and request to join.
Q6 I’m not sure if I’ve paid this year – how do I find out?
Sign in to Membership Works and check your profile – if your membership level is “Family Membership” or “Individual Membership” then you’ve paid!
Q7 How do I get a login for the membership system?
You’ll receive your login details by email when you join (see Q2 How do I become a member of DYW above). Check your spam if you didn’t receive an email, and remember to add organization-20580@membershipworks.org to your Contacts so our emails don't end up in spam!
Q8 I’ve forgotten my password – what do I do?
No problem! Simply select the ‘Request Password’ option near the top of this page and follow the prompts. See also Q5 I'm not sure if I'm a Member or not - how do I know?
Q9 My partner would also like a login, or to receive emails from DYW. How can I set this up?
As our Memberships are Family Memberships, only a single primary email address can be used to log in. However, you can add as many other family members as you’d like on the Family page and they will receive emails from DYW. To do that:
1. Log in to the Membership system.
2. Go to the ‘Family’ page.

3. Choose to ‘Add a new contact’.
4. Add the contact’s details, and choose ‘Save’. Note we can’t customise the fields that appear on the Contact page – all we really need is their name and email address so you can choose to leave the rest blank.

Q10 We’re a split family. How can both parents have a login and receive emails from DYW on a single Family Membership?
You have two options:
- Have a single Family Membership, and add the other parent as a contact on the Family page. This will ensure the other parent receives emails. They will be able maintain their own contact details, but not their child’s details.
- Request a Community Membership for the other parent. To avoid counting your child twice, your child’s details will be saved under the Family Membership.
Q11 Why can't I see or edit my child's details?
If you're set up as a contact on another Membership then you will only be able to view and edit your own contact details when you sign in. The "Parent" account holder can view and edit all details.
